Roseburn Primary SchoolRoseburn Primary School is about a mile from Edinburgh city centre.
As we are a city school, we do not have extensive grounds, however we use the local park for PE and other activities. We have achieved our second green flag for the efforts we have put in to the grounds and how we look after them. We have also achieved Intermediate level in the International Schools Award due to our previous work in the Comenius project and our continuing work with a school in Kwamebikrom, Ghana. The children here are from mixed backgrounds and ethnic groups. Most parents are financially comfortable and we have a low number of children who receive free school meals. We have children here from countries such as Poland, Slovakia, China, Holland and India. We have EAL teachers who visit school to support those children for whom English is a second language. As part of the project, we hope to be able to share our culture and legends with others while learning about other countries. We will be able to see similarities and value differences between the cultures. We hope that this will encourage children to see the bigger picture of Europe rather than Scotland as a stand alone country, to become better European citizens. We would like to make longer term links through etwinning and email betweeen both staff and pupils and hope to still keep in touch when the project ends. We have children in school learning French who we hope will be able to make friends through email with children from the French school and the same for our children who are learning German. We may also be able to make email links with children here from Poland and I am keen to offer our children to other schools to give the same support. We look forward to using innovative approaches to sharing work with the children in the participating schools through the use of new technologies available to us e.g. our ipads. In approaching this project we would like to encourage inclusion for all at our school so that each outcome can be shared at all stages from Nursery to P7.
Escola MartinetIt is set in Cornella de Llobregat, in the metropolitan belt of Barcelona.
Martinet School is a new school created five years ago.It is set in Cornella de Llobregat, in the metropolitan belt of Barcelona. Next September we will offer schooling up to Primary 4 level. Our students come from different backgrounds and nationalities, and social situation is changing due to the deep recession that our country is undergoing. Martinet school has always had an interest in Foreign Languages and Cultures. In its Linguistic Project it is specified the importance of the 3 languages taught at the School: Catalan, Spanish and English. The School is making a big effort in finding and providing resources in order to offer valuable English Learning / Teaching opportunities. This is the reason why we would like to participate in this Comenius Project. We think that taking part in it, our students, teachers and Local Community will have the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences with other schools, countries and communities in Europe, learning their culture while using English.
22nd Primary School Saint George LimassolIt is a primary educational institution situated in the city of Limassol, Cyprus
There are 22 teachers working in my school and about 197 students studying from 6-12 years old. The students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds and a small percentage of them are foreigners and migrants mostly from countries in Eastern Europe. Moreover, there is a special needs unit which supports children with special needs. All teachers and students at my school will be involved in the Comenius project and participate in the activities of the programme. In the last years my school has been involved in educational programmes as part of our National Curriculum that will contribute in the accomplishment of the objectives of the proposed Comenius project. One of the roles that our school will have during the project is the role of coordinator of the website of the project, which is a part of our programme. I have also the coordinating role in the project in my school community and I am responsible to inform and update my colleagues on a regular basis about the progress of the project. Through cooperation with my fellow colleagues we have created an action plan with specific activities to be implemented for the accomplishment of the objectives of our Comenius project. I will also be responsible for the effective operation of the program and for the active involvement of parents and the local community in the working process of the project. The school hasn’t got any experience in European projects but we are convinced that the work on them will give opportunities to learn more about the European countries, to gain knowledge of various cultures, and all this will be helpful for the future collaboration and communication between the different nations. It also enables students to fulfill their own ideas during the lessons, to apply and to improve their knowledge in Literature, English and Information technology; Music and Art and this will allow them to take an active part in the educational process. They will learn to work in a team and to behave tolerantly with different children. The work on our Comenius project will help us to exchange experiences with other European schools, without any curriculum restrictions, to verify school life, to increase pupils’ motivation to gain knowledge and skills which will make easier their future realization.

Essentially they come from the city of Amiens, from a comfortable socioeconomic environment. Until last year, the school didn't work on any International project, but the partnership with a little local association for the international cooperation development (Europ'& friends) is a good opportunity for the school staff and for the pupils. A cooperation agreement signed by Marie-Anne CAUDROY, the president of the the association Europ'& friends and Isabelle FOULON, headmistress of the school formalize the partnership between both structures. The school is entirely responsible of the Comenius project regarding to the French national Agency, Europ'& friends propose a technical support to the school to understand the Coménius Call for project, to complete some parts of the application, and for linguistical and logistical points. The pedagogical team wants to integrate this Coménius Multilateral partnerships into the school development plan to make it alive for all the people of the school, from the teachers to the pupils, the parents, and all the partners of the school.
Zespol Szkolno - Przedszkolny w BorkowieOur school is in the village with about 1500 inhabitants.
Our school is in the village with about 1500 inhabitants. Borkowo is situated in the north of Poland, 10 km from the centre of Gdansk. Small agricultural farms were the source of maintenance of the local population so far. As a result of social - economical changes they became unprofitable. This caused that inhabitants had to look for employment in different sections of the economy beyond the place of the residence The majority, because of the low level of education and lack of the skilled occupation has difficulties with finding job. Those families are characterized by low economic status. Some farms exist from casual and seasonal works. Part of the inhabitants, despite undertaken tries, didn't find employment and makes use of social help. The school is the only cultural and educational institution present in village Borkowo. The institution provides the pupils care after regular lessons. As a partner in this multicultural project we will be able to: - learn more about the cultures and traditions across the Europe , - make ourselves familiar with customs and lifestyle of people in partnership countries, - forge international links for further cooperation, - share our experience with teachers of different backgrounds, - learn more about the newest teaching methods, - exchange the ideas related to children’s activities, - foster an attitude of tolerance and respect towards the differences, free of prejudice, - develop teachers’ language skills and to create an enthusiasm for language learning - to share our experience related to working with pupils with the special educational needs. The project will contribute to integration of our school community (children, their parents and teachers), the growth of commitment of parents in works for the school and the promotion of our institution in the local environment. Parents will have an opportunity to join the activities when the project is carrying out. Finally, we are convinced that all the parameters of such a project (including the opportunity of using English to communicate, getting together, planning and carrying out team workshops, as well as using the technological potentials of communication) can and will be beneficial, and we will all come out of it as better educators, better people, better members of European society.
Evangelische SchuleOur school is located in a little town in the north of Germany.
Our town has about 13,000 inhabitants and less industry. Our school was founded in 2003 and currently we have 170 pupils. It is a private school sponsored by the Church. We teach children from the 1st to the 10th Grade. Our children live in the villages around the town, some of them must drive by bus or train over 50 Km per way before they arrive at school. In our classes we have children with special needs, with social problems and with learning difficulties integrated. They need a lot of help and comprehension from the other pupils and teachers. They all learn together in mixed groups from the 1st until the 4th grade. The school follows the learning methods developed by Maria Montessori. Each child can learn according to their capacities and possibilities.
